スーパームーンの皆既月蝕＠カナダ

カナダでは、9月27日（日）の夜9時過ぎ頃からスーパームーンの皆既月食が見られました。雲がかかっていたので、月がはっきりと見えるか心配でしたが、時間がたつにつれて空は晴れ渡り、とてもきれいなスーパームーンの皆既月蝕を見ることができました。

iphoneで一生懸命に撮ったのですが、ぜんぜんうまく写りませんでした。やはり、携帯のカメラで皆既月蝕を撮ろうという方が間違っていたようです。

Stargazers across Canada were in for a two-for-one treat Sunday night with the rare confluence of a total lunar eclipse with a so-called supermoon.
カナダ中の天体観測者たちは、スーパームーンと皆既月蝕の珍しい合体で、日曜の夜は1つで2倍楽しめる天体ショーを体験した。

A supermoon occurs when a full or new moon makes its closest approach to the Earth and appears slightly larger and brighter than normal.
スーパームーンは、満月または新月が地球に最も近づいて、通常よりも少し大きくて明るく見えるときに起こる。
As the moon was eclipsed by the Earth's shadow on Sunday, it also turned a reddish colour, an eerie wonder known as a blood moon.
日曜日は、月が地球の影に隠れて月蝕し、色が赤っぽくなり、赤い月として知られる不気味な奇跡に変わった。
 The timing of the eclipse was good for most parts of Canada, but those on the West Coast missed the initial stages because the moon was lower in the sky.
 月蝕のタイミングはほとんどのカナダで問題なかったが、ウエスト・コーストでは、月が空の低い位置にあったため、最初の段階は観測できなかった。
Jeff Smith was able to enjoy the unique event from the comfort and vantage of his apartment on Canada's East Coast, which also happened to be located in the tallest building in Halifax.
ジェフ・スミスさんも、心地よく、見晴らしのいいカナダのイースト・コーストにある彼のアパートから珍しいイベントを楽しむことができた。又、彼のアパートは、たまたまハリファクスで一番高いビルに位置していた。
"I'm pretty excited. I love this sort of thing," said the British native, living in Nova Scotia for school. "The reflection on the harbour in Halifax is gorgeous."

今回のスーパームーンの皆既月食を見逃してしまったとしても、がっかりなさらないでください。他にも英国での天体ショーはこれからもありますので。

Missed the supermoon lunar eclipse? Here are some of the next best astronomical events visible from the UK with the naked eye:
October 21: Orionid meteor shower Some shooting stars associated with the shower are expected to be visible each night from October 16-30. At its peak the maximum rate of visible meteors could reach 25 per hour
November 18: Leonid meteor shower Some shooting stars are expected to be visible from November 15-20. Maximum rate of visible meteors from a dark location could reach 20 per hour
December 14: Geminid meteor shower Widely considered to be the best meteor shower of all, it will reach peak activity on this night. Maximum rate of meteors expected to be visible is around 100 per hour
January 3, 2016: Quadrantid meteor shower In 2016 the shower peaks on the night of the 3 January and morning of the 4 January. Maximum rate of visible meteors is expected to be around 80 per hour
May 9, 2016: Mercury in transit Mercury will move directly between the Earth and the Sun - an event which only occurs once every few years. Best viewed from North America, the eastern Pacific, New Zealand or south-eastern Australia, and parts of Europe, Asia and Africa
